They are often hundreds of dollars less expensive than comparable Windows PCs. Because of this, many American classrooms are choosing Chromebooks for both in-person and online learning. These machines are typically available on loan.
The downside to Chromebooks is that they’re not as flexible as Windows laptops. A Windows laptop can handle many uses and can be downloaded from any source. In contrast, Chromebooks are more of a “walled garden.” Most of the software you use on them must be downloaded from the Google Play store. That’s why you can’t download regular software or install Windows programs on them. But these downsides are negligible when compared to the benefits of buying a Chromebook.
Another big advantage of Chromebooks is security. With no internal storage, they are secure and even have Google services. Chromebooks are cheap laptops, but you shouldn’t make a decision based on price alone. Consider the pros and cons of both before you buy.
